With more than 3,000 international students representing over 50 countries, George Mason is ranked #1 for diversity in Virginia. With this in mind, Mason Dining is making a concentrated effort to serve certified halal meat following locations.
Southside Dining Hall - Chefs Table (Entrée station) and Simple Servings station;
Ike's Dining Hall - Clarendon (Entrée station) and Simple Serving station;
The Globe Dining Hall - look for the sign by the dish.
Mason Dining will make every effort to ensure all meats served at these stations will be halal except for turkey (due to a current supply chain shortage) and subsequent non-halal items (pork, shellfish, shrimp, and scallops). In the event that non-halal items are the only option, a halal entree will still be available upon request. Additionally, please look for these signs on the sneeze guards indicating whether Halal is being served or moved to another station.
The Halal Guys, located at the Johnson Center, serves "American halal" platters and sandwiches, prepared using ingredients such as chicken, gyro meat, falafel, and rice. The taste has been described as entailing a complex melting pot of flavors originating from the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Spice Corner, located at the HUB, promises Indian fusion dishes, Halal options, and eclectic flavors of chicken wings, fries, and other traditional late-night fares.
